Answer
Safe Access Zones were introduced at all health service locations providing abortion services across Northern Ireland from 29 September 2023, and continue to operate effectively in line with Assembly legislation to protect women and girls accessing abortion treatment services, information, advice and counselling, and to protect staff working at these locations. My Department's website includes a list and maps of Safe Access Zones, FAQs and Operator Guidance.
In line with the requirements under Section 8 of the Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) Act (Northern Ireland) 2023, the Department will publish an annual report setting out whether, in the opinion of the Department, each safe access zone has been effective in protecting the safety and dignity of protected persons.
