Answer

There is no general legal responsibility on bystanders to provide assistance in a medical emergency. Northern Ireland does not have a specific standalone “Good Samaritan” law that imposes a legal duty on members of the public to assist a person who is injured or experiencing a medical emergency.

While there is no general legal obligation for a bystander to intervene, members of the public are encouraged to seek appropriate emergency assistance, such as contacting the emergency services, where it is safe and reasonable to do so. Individuals who voluntarily provide assistance in an emergency are generally expected to act reasonably and within the limits of their knowledge and competence.
