Answer

The Bannfoot pedestrian and cycle bridge is being progressed by my Department as a local Active Travel scheme to improve walking and cycling connectivity around Lough Neagh.

A feasibility study identified a pedestrian and cycle bridge between the Columbkille Road and the Bannfoot Road as the preferred option. Given the sensitive location, further environmental work was completed, and the scheme was subsequently commissioned for detailed design in early 2025.

Officials are currently progressing that design work and engagement with stakeholders and the public will commence once plans are suitably developed. As with all such schemes, delivery will be subject to the completion of the necessary technical and statutory processes, and the availability of funding.
